Lingnan University and the Sun Yat-sen University Institute of Advanced Studies Hong Kong join forces to launch their innovation platform, a new chapter in interdisciplinary research collaboration

On 6 February 2026, a preparatory meeting was held between the Sun Yat-sen University Institute of Advanced Studies Hong Kong and Lingnan University to discuss the joint establishment of an innovation platform. Led by Prof Xin Yao, Vice-President (Research and Innovation) and Tong Tin Sun Chair Professor of Machine Learning at Lingnan University, a delegation visited the Sun Yat-sen University Institute of Advanced Studies Hong Kong to hold detailed discussions on project preparation and implementation. Representatives from Lingnan University, two companies and the Sun Yat-sen University Institute of Advanced Studies Hong Kong reached a broad consensus and explored the next steps.
Prof Xu Anlong, President of the Sun Yat-sen University Institute of Advanced Studies Hong Kong, presented details of the project’s overall vision, strategic positioning, core innovative features, and application roadmap, setting the main direction for subsequent progress focussing on the project’s research strengths, scope of content, technical roadmap, mechanisms for multiparty collaboration, and commercialisation, enabling further cooperation, clarifying key tasks, establishing timelines, and formalising regular coordination to ensure efficient and systematic advances.
The meeting concluded with critical decisions made on the core work plan for the next phase. Both parties will now accelerate the essential preparation of the innovation platform, formulate a detailed project proposal, and complete all application preparations to the highest standards. The ultimate aim is to drive breakthrough progression in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in biomedicine and artificial intelligence, and contribute jointly to Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology hub.
