Lingnan University’s Wu Jieh Yee School of Interdisciplinary Studies (WJYSIS) and the Advanced Institute for Ocean Research at Southern University of Science and Technology (AIOR at SUSTech), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 20 January 2026. Prof Chen Xi, Chair Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Dean of the WJYSIS at Lingnan University, and Prof Lin Jian, Chair Professor and Director of AIOR at SUSTech, Director of Shenzhen Ocean University Preparatory Team, and a Member of Academia Europaea, signed the MoU on behalf of the two universities.

 

After the signing ceremony, both parties held discussions ending in a review of the cooperation framework, laying a solid foundation for future shared initiatives. Prof Chen expressed enthusiasm for this partnership as a critical starting point to consolidate valuable educational and scientific resources from both Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and highlighted the importance of essential research collaboration and talent development in order to improve outcomes and explore innovative paradigms for interdisciplinary integration. This aligns with the goal of advancing the healthy evolution of the marine economy within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

 

Prof Lin then emphasised that this MoU represents a significant advancement towards effective implementation and integration in deep-sea technology and sustainable development, and looks forward enthusiastically to increasing Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation, research, and joint talent and academic exchanges, thereby contributing "Shenzhen-Hong Kong wisdom" to the national marine power strategy.
