Henna, with the confidence, cultural literacy, and social awareness of young people in the Hong Kong SAR, says that participating in the 15th Miss China Pageant as a student is an honour.
The grand finale of the 15th Miss China Pageant was held on 28 February in Putian, Fujian Province. Representing the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Lingnan University student Henna Liu Yeuk-tung (Human Resource Management, Year 4) competed against more than 30 top finalists at the national stage, and did Hong Kong proud by achieving an impressive fourth-place, demonstrating the cultural literacy, confidence, and talent of Hong Kong youth.
This year’s pageant had champions from regional contests across the country, and was a highly competitive event themed “City of Great Love, Blooming Dreams”. It emphasised the Chinese traditional culture, and blended centuries of heritage with qualities of the modern women. Rounds included cheongsam (qipao) presentation and Q&A sessions, and Henna impressed the judges with her poise, confidence, and appreciative interpretation of Chinese cultural traditions, ultimately securing fourth place.
She later said “Participating in this national-level competition and achieving this result has been an unforgettable experience. The pageant gave me the opportunity to meet impressive young women from all over the country, and to learn about the unique cultural characteristics of different regions. It was an honour to take part as a student and to represent the confidence, cultural awareness, and social responsibility of Hong Kong SAR youth. I hope to be a bridge connecting young people from other regions, so that we can work together to preserve and pass on Chinese culture.”
Beyond her academic studies, Henna, who won the Hong Kong SAR title in the 19th Miss Global City Pageant in 2024, has joined in various on- and off-campus activities so as to develop her communication, presentation, and organisational skills.
Lingnan University President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science Prof S. Joe Qin congratulated Henna warmly, and a University spokesperson said “Lingnan has always emphasised holistic student development. Through leadership training, cultural programmes, and international exchange activities, students are encouraged to develop a cross-cultural perspective and sense of social responsibility. National competitions provide valuable experiences of personal growth, and also allow students to display the cultural characteristics and diversity of the Hong Kong SAR young. The University supports students’ academic, cultural, and social development, endowing future leaders with global vision and cultural literacy.”
The Miss China Pageant is organised under the guidance of the China International Culture Communication Center in partnership with the Hong Kong Youth Patriotic Education Foundation and the Associação Fraternal dos Conterrâneos de Fukien. The young contestants go through several qualification rounds, telling China’s story and that of Chinese culture.
