Lingnan University and Sichuan University sign MoU to extend cooperation in education

The two universities exchanged views on greater collaboration in various areas.

On 19 March 2026, Lingnan University and Sichuan University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Lingnan campus, and will promote increased cooperation in student and cultural exchanges, faculty and staff visits, research collaboration, joint training programmes, and short-term training.
A delegation from Sichuan University, led by Prof Zhao Changsheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President, visited Lingnan University for the signing ceremony and detailed discussions with Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science, Prof Xin Yao, Vice-President (Research and Innovation) and Tong Tin Sun Chair Professor of Machine Learning, and members of Lingnan’s senior management. Following the signature of the MoU, witnessed by representatives from both institutions, the two universities exchanged views on greater collaboration in curriculum development, undergraduate and postgraduate articulation, joint training programmes, academic capacity-building, and shared research platforms. The discussions stressed the importance of a structured coordination mechanism to ensure the effective implementation of joint initiatives.
President Qin welcomed the delegation from Sichuan University, and highlighted Lingnan’s commitment to internationalisation and interdisciplinary innovation. As Lingnan strengthens partnerships with leading mainland institutions, this agreement represents a significant step forward, he said, and he looks forward to leveraging the two institutions’ strengths in joint training, collaborative education, and research innovation to foster mutual growth and resource sharing.
Vice President Zhao thanked Lingnan for its hospitality, and outlined Sichuan University’s academic strengths and collaborative expertise, emphasising its robust disciplinary foundation and extensive experience in international education. Sichuan University values its ties with Hong Kong’s higher education sector, he said, and this MoU will elevate the quality of talent development and academic innovation for both institutions.
After the meeting, the Sichuan University delegation toured Lingnan’s campus and the Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiative, gaining firsthand insight into the University’s advancements in innovation and entrepreneurship.
