Lingnan University’s Awards Presentation Ceremony 2026 awards over 950 scholarships to support students' holistic development

Lingnan University’s Office of Student Affairs’ scholarship award ceremony on 30 March was attended by 230 participants, including Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science; Prof Raymond Chan Hon-fu, Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Scientific Computing; senior university management, donors, and faculty members. The University has given more than 950 scholarships of approximately HK$27 million to 687 students, recognising their notable academic and personal achievements.

In his opening address, Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science, celebrated the achievements of outstanding students and expressed gratitude to donors. He emphasised that the awards recognise not only academic excellence but also the ambition, compassion and determination of the students. Noting that Lingnan achieved several “Number Ones and Only Ones in Hong Kong SAR” in 2025, he cited that in the first round of JUPAS 2026 applications, Lingnan ranked first among all UGC‑funded institutions in both overall applications and Band A applications, a strong testament to the University’s appeal among prospective students. President Qin also remarked that Lingnan is preparing to welcome the next generation of outstanding students with the launch of the Samuel C.C. Ting Elite Class in 2026/27, which will provide comprehensive fellowship support, mentorship and priority access to research opportunities.

Seemi Nisar, a final-year student from the Department of Economics, was selected for the “Lingnan Education Organization Ambassador Programme - The Most Distinguished Student of the University Award”, and she said how proud and honoured all the awardees are. She thanked the University and the donors for their guidance and generosity, and said that Lingnan has given her a second home where she feels inspired and supported, and empowered to pursue her future ambitions.

Titus Chan Ho-chuen, a Year 2 student from the Department of Philosophy, received the “Dr and Mrs James Tak Wu Awards for Outstanding Service (Student Award)” in recognition of his valuable services to the community. Titus runs several AI start-ups promoting philosophical and cognitive critical thinking. After lectures, in his free time he works with the elderly and children in need, demonstrating his commitment as a volunteer to applying knowledge for the benefit of the whole community.
