Lingnan University’s JUPAS Consultation Day 2026 offers complete support and interactive experiences to help candidates plan their future path, drawing a full house at its West Kowloon campus

Lingnan University held its JUPAS Consultation Day 2026 on 16 May at Lingnan@West Kowloon in the M+ Tower, West Kowloon Cultural District, offering timely practical guidance to HKDSE candidates ahead of their results and their final opportunity to adjust programme choices. The event’s 360-degree “festivalisation” approach transforms the often high-pressure JUPAS decision period into a more pleasant and supportive experience, and highlights of the day included a JUPAS Strategy Talk by Mr Ng Po-shing, Vice-Principal and Student Guidance Consultant at the Hok Yau Club, as well as presentations on the latest admissions information and Lingnan’s global opportunities. Alumni and students also hosted sharing sessions on campus life and personal development.

Given this competitive landscape, Ms Margaret Cheung, Registrar of Lingnan University, encouraged students to place Lingnan programmes in Band A to signal their interest clearly and maximise their chances of admission. She said that Lingnan has introduced a flexible admissions policy starting in the 2026/27 academic year to better recognise applicants’ diverse talents and achievements, and under this arrangement the University will give special consideration to applicants whose target Lingnan programmes are in Band A and who demonstrate a strong overall academic performance. This applies even if they fall short by one level in either Chinese Language or Mathematics, subject to overall competitiveness and programme-specific criteria.

Ms Cheung added that Lingnan will continue to strengthen engagement with schools through upcoming activities, including the “Inspiration Future” Reception for Principals and Teachers on 29 May 2026. This event will allow Lingnan and secondary school principals and teachers to network and exchange ideas on how to assist students to thrive in the digital era while staying true to human-centric values.

Mr Ng explained that successful JUPAS planning goes beyond meeting minimum entrance requirements, and urged candidates to consider their interests, strengths, and long-term goals while making good use of official JUPAS information, school support, and reliable guidance. He added that in an era shaped by rapid technological change and AI, students should actively pursue exchanges, internships, service-learning, and digital skills development.

A main feature of the event was the sharing session between alumni and current students. Alumna Anson Yu On-sang, a 2023 Translation graduate now Assistant Vice President in the Asia-Pacific Human Resources team at an investment bank, said that Lingnan’s whole-person development and critical thinking training had prepared her for the AI era. Meanwhile, current student Singh Dildaarpreet Prince drew on his recent experiences as a DSE candidate to offer peer support and practical advice on transitioning to university life.

Displaying Lingnan’s commitment to making quality education accessible, Translation students Thalia Ma Lok-yee and Adrian Law Yau-kiu provided on-site interpretation for non-Chinese-speaking (NCS) students.

With admission scores trending upward and over 90 per cent of last year’s JUPAS places going to Band A applicants, competition continues to be stiff. Lingnan has led all eight UGC-funded universities in Band A application growth for three consecutive years, and in overall application growth for two, proving strong, sustained demand.
