Lingnan University’s “GeoAI Smart Mosquito-Borne Disease Prevention and Control Solution”, invented by Prof Paulina Wong Pui-yun, Head of the Division of Science and Associate Professor (Presidential Early Career Scholar), won the "AI+ Social Impact Award" at the “AI+ Innovation Awards 2026” presentation ceremony.
With the frequent occurrence of mosquito-borne diseases in recent years posing significant challenges to public health, traditional mosquito control efforts are often limited by reactive measures and delayed data. This project comprehensively upgrades the mosquito control model through GeoAI (Geospatial Artificial Intelligence) technology, including:
1. Proactive prediction: Forecasting high-risk areas in advance.
2. Data-driven approach: Integrating multi-source environmental data to support the precise deployment of resources for smart cities.
3. Sustainable development: Establishing a long-term monitoring mechanism to effectively reduce the transmission risks of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue fever.
This award affirms Lingnan's continuous efforts in integrating liberal arts education with innovation. The University will continue to drive digital humanities and interdisciplinary education, translating cutting-edge academic research into practical solutions to promote community health.
