Lingnan University receives Top Three-Star Certificate for the third consecutive year, advancing gerontechnology adoption for more older adults and caregivers

Having received the highest Three-Star Certificate in the Elderly Care Award Scheme organised by the Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing District Co-ordinating Committee on Elderly Service under the Social Welfare Department in 2024 and 2025, Lingnan University has once again been awarded the same honour in 2026. This recognition for the third consecutive year affirms Lingnan’s sustained endeavours to promote the understanding of gerontechnology in order to encourage intergenerational inclusion, and support the well-being of older adults in the community.

Over the past three years, the Lingnan team has continued to organise community education programmes, gerontechnological experiences and activities, and volunteer training to help older adults better understand and adopt gerontechnological solutions. Their work has enhanced seniors’ independence in daily life and encouraged greater social participation. The team believes that receiving this recognition for three consecutive years not only reflects the success of the project, but also demonstrates the joint efforts of key stakeholders, elderly service providers, community partners, student volunteers, and older adults.

Dr Chloe Siu Pui-yee, Senior Lecturer of the School of Graduate Studies at Lingnan University, said, “As Hong Kong's population continues to age, gerontechnology has become an increasingly important tool to improve the quality of life of older adults. We hope to strengthen collaboration with community partners and expand the gerontechnology promotion network. Through the health-related programmes offered by the School of Graduate Studies, we shall nurture more young people to understand the applications of gerontechnology. By gaining practical experience and communicating directly with seniors, they will better appreciate the needs of an ageing population and contribute to building a culture of intergenerational care and social inclusion.”

This Three-Star Certificate demonstrates the project’s evolution from a service initiative into a sustainable community service platform with lasting social impact. Upholding its motto of “Education for Service”, Lingnan will continue to leverage its strengths in teaching, research, and community engagement to advance innovative gerontechnological applications, and work with different sectors of society to create a more caring, inclusive, and age-friendly community.
