Lingnan University announces that, with immediate effect, the University is revising the English Language graduation requirement for undergraduate students. Students must now complete and pass all required English Language courses, instead of relying on external testing compliance. A spokesperson for Lingnan University said that the University has always attached great importance to students’ English proficiency and regularly reviews and enhances its curricula and graduation requirements, while continuously improving the quality of English language courses. These efforts ensure that teaching arrangements meet students’ learning needs and help them strengthen their English proficiency throughout their university studies, preparing them for further studies and entry into the workplace after graduation.

Under the revised arrangement, students must complete and pass all required English language courses to fulfil the graduation requirement. Through credit-bearing English language courses, the University will continue to develop students’ English proficiency and help them improve their language skills progressively throughout their university studies. In addition, the Centre for English and Additional Languages (CEAL) has introduced a new English Language Enhancement Course (LUE3009) in the current academic year to provide additional English language support for students in need and help them further improve their English proficiency.

Lingnan’s English Language Enhancement (ELE) Curriculum groups students according to their English proficiency upon admission. It comprises university English courses, English electives and discipline-related Professional Communication courses. The revision aims to make better use of teaching resources and strengthen support for students’ English language learning.
