Latest translation capacity rankings for higher education institutions released as Lingnan University ranks fourth among universities in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan region.
Lingnan University has ranked fourth among higher education institutions in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan region in the 2025 China University Translation Capacity Index, recently released by Beijing Foreign Studies University. Covering 511 universities across mainland Chinese, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan region, the index assesses translation capacity at university level and provides an important reference for understanding the development of translation education and related capabilities across different regions.
The rankings were announced on 24 October at the Sixth Symposium on “National Translation Capacity, Theoretical Development and Practical Exploration”, held at Beijing Foreign Studies University. The index assesses universities across four areas, namely translation practice capacity, translation education capacity, translation research capacity, and influence in online and social media related to translation.
In response to the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and translation technologies, Lingnan is promoting the integration of translation education and language technology. From the 2027/28 academic year, the Department of Translation will be renamed the Department of Language Industry and Technology, enabling students to strengthen their professional knowledge of languages and translation while developing skills in digital tools, AI and human-machine collaboration to meet the changing needs of the language services industry.
