Faculty of Social Sciences

Welcome to the homepage of Lingnan's Faculty of Social Sciences. We provide internationally leading liberal arts education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) Programme is a unique interdisciplinary programme in Hong Kong which provides students with broad-based and whole-person education. We also offer two self-financed undergraduate programmes, the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Business Psychology and the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Global Economics and Banking. Besides, we host numerous taught postgraduate (MA/MSc) and research postgraduate (MPhil/PhD) programmes, which attract students from all over the world.

Degree Programme

Under the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) Programme, we offer nine Majors. All First and Senior Year (Year 3 Entry) students are required to take up one Major. Successful Senior year students will be admitted to the third year and normally complete their studies within two years. The standard duration for full-time First and Senior Year students is four and two years, respectively.

Research Postgraduate Programmes

The Faculty offers MPhil/PhD Programmes in Economics, Government and International Affairs, Psychology, Sociology and/or Social Policy. The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Programme in Social Sciences was launched in 1995, and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme in Social Sciences in 2000-2001. Both MPhil and PhD Programmes equip students to engage in in-depth study in specific research areas in the Social Sciences.

Over the years, our faculty members have established expertise in relevant subject areas. Strategic research and knowledge transfer projects stretching from economic and financial development issues, social policy, gerontology, public policy, international relations and occupational psychology have gained local and international recognition.
