A Day at University: Tuen Mun primary school students participate in sustainable development experience
Over 150 Tuen Mun primary school students and teachers visit Lingnan University and engage in the "A Day at University" activity.
At Lingnan, community service is an integral part of campus life, guided by our motto, "Education for Service". On 15 February 2025, Lingnan University, the Tuen Mun District Office of Home Affairs Department, and the Tuen Mun District Youth Development and Civic Education Committee hosted an experiential event called “A Day at University”, part of the “Strive for Success” programme in the Tuen Mun District Primary Students Award Scheme 2024-25. The programme aimed to inspire and motivate young students while guiding their values and perspectives. The event welcomed over 150 students and teachers from 15 primary schools in Tuen Mun District.
In his welcome speech, Mr Fung Pui-yin, the Vice Chairman of the Tuen Mun District Youth Development and Civic Education Committee pointed out that this programme aims to inspire primary school students to set personal goals and academic paths early, establish correct values and life directions, and encourage students to strive to achieve their goals. Ms Irene Ng Wai-ming, Director of Student Affairs of Lingnan University, also expressed her gratitude to the various youth affairs partners in Tuen Mun District and the enthusiastic participation of the primary schools, which made the "Strive for Success" programme a true success.
Lingnan’s Science Unit arranged a series of engaging lectures on “Bug Wars against Food Waste Project” and "A Fun Look at Local Biodiversity". The experiential classes were lively and interesting, with students actively discussing topics like environmental conservation and sustainable development. In addition, about 20 volunteer students from Lingnan University’s student community service team, C.Connects, enthusiastically introduced the visiting primary students to various campus facilities, including the Student Hostels, Sports Complex, University Library, and canteen, providing them with insight into university life.
After the activities, students eagerly shared their impressive thoughts and experiences. Some mentioned that they were initially afraid of insects and animal specimens, but later bravely touched them, overcoming and even gaining a deeper understanding of the important contributions of insects and biodiversity to nature. Students also expressed that this "A Day at University" experience motivated them to study hard and aspire to attend university.
