Lingnan University showcases innovations at InnoEX 2025

Lingnan University made waves at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) and InnoEX, Asia's premier innovation and technology event.
One of the highlights was Lingnan’s display of the Gerontechnology Project, aimed at sharing the success of knowledge transfer and showcasing how gerontechnology can support older adults in living with a better quality of life. Additionally, students from the Master of Science in Health Analytics and Management (HAM) programme presented their designed product at the start-up zone, focusing on addressing the issue of dementia and the role of technology in easing caregiver burdens.
During the academic year 2024/25, Lingnan organised the Gerontech Incubation Lab-cum-Design Competition, where the team behind the "Echo Link" smart necklace, comprising three HAM students, emerged as the first runner-up. The product's standout features included location detection and proactive accident prevention, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing elderly care through technological innovation. The team's vision extended beyond product development, aiming to create a new ecosystem for smart elderly care that empowers both the elderly and caregivers.
The team of students shared that participation in the Hong Kong Electronics Fair not only garnered valuable feedback for product enhancement but also facilitated networking opportunities with startup entrepreneurs. This experience bolstered the team's confidence in product development and paved the way for potential collaborations, underscoring Lingnan University's commitment to driving innovation in elderly care.

Additionally, Prof Pan Fei from Lingnan University's Interdisciplinary School led two student teams to present their research projects - "Medical Image Super-Resolution" and "Intelligent Customer Service Robot" - which attracted significant attention from international enterprises and generated multiple collaboration opportunities, emerging as highlights of the event, which was supported by the Innovation and Technology Fund of the Innovation and Technology Commission.
Addressing the challenge of low-resolution medical imaging in CT and MRI scans, an innovative solution has been developed by a student team led by Wang Song. By integrating dual-channel spatial attention modules into a residual network, their technology successfully enhances low-resolution images. This advancement not only reduces hardware upgrade costs but also assists physicians in accurately identifying early-stage pathological changes. Numerous exhibitors visited the booth to learn about the technology and expressed strong interest in potential collaborations.
The student team of Zhang Zhen, Huang Zewen, and Dai Jinyao presented their "LSTM and Adaptive Rule-Based Fusion Intelligent Customer Service Robot," which innovatively combines deep learning with logical reasoning engines. Its dynamic knowledge graph enables real-time integration of user dialogue data. The interactive demonstration area at their exhibition booth attracted over 50 visitors for hands-on experience. The team received an official interview from the expo organisers and earned high praise from both technology enthusiasts and multinational corporations.
