The Lingnan Cognitive Science Conference 2026 and the Inaugural Ceremony of the Lingnan University Cognitive Science Research Centre (CSRC) were held on 5 June 2026 at Lingnan@WestKowloon. Hosted by the CSRC, this year’s conference was themed “Dynamics of Mind: Social, Neural, and Computational Perspectives”. The event brought together scholars and students in cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, human–AI interaction, and related fields for a full day of academic exchange.
The conference began with welcoming remarks from Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science, followed by Prof Xin Yao, Vice-President (Research and Innovation) and Tong Tin Sun Chair Professor of Machine Learning; Prof William Hayward, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Chair Professor of Psychology; and Prof Jay Xu Jie, Director of the Lingnan University Cognitive Science Research Centre and Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology.
A highlight of the event was the inaugural ceremony of the CSRC. Prof Qin, Prof Yao, Prof Hayward, Prof Siu Oi-ling, Head of the Department of Psychology, Lam Woo & Co Ltd Chair Professor of Applied Psychology, and Director of the Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre, and Prof Xu jointly unveiled the plaque to mark the official launch of the Centre.
The CSRC was established with the vision of developing Lingnan University into an international hub for cognitive science that advances fundamental understanding of the human mind while contributing to the future of human-centred artificial intelligence. The Centre aims to provide interdisciplinary platforms for research, education, and collaboration, bringing together expertise in psychology, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, computational approaches, and related disciplines.
The conference featured keynote speeches by Prof David Alais, Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Sydney, and Prof Marcel Brass, Professor of Social Intelligence at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. It also included invited talks by five prominent scholars from the Hong Kong SAR and Chinese Mainland, representing the University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Zhejiang University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Shanghai University.
The success of the conference and the inauguration of the CSRC marked an important milestone in Lingnan University’s development of cognitive science research. The event strengthened academic exchange among local, regional, and international scholars, created opportunities for future collaboration, and provided students and early-career researchers with valuable exposure to cutting-edge interdisciplinary research.
