Department of Visual Studies contributes to award-winning programme on art education

i-dArt is a social enterprise under the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.  In 2013, it started its first three-year art education programme specifically for people with different abilities.  Given that it is the first of its kind in Hong Kong, the Department of Visual Studies has been contributing research efforts on various aspects such as the design, documentation and evaluation to ensure a comprehensive and meaningful art education programme.  On 11 May, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council presented the Award for Arts Education (Non-School Division) under the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2017 to i-dArt in recognition of its unstinting support and contribution to the arts development in Hong Kong.

Prof Sophia Law Suk-mun, Associate Professor of the Department of Visual Studies, regarded the project “dream impossible” and was happy to see their commitment over the past three years pay off eventually.  “It has been a joint cooperation among the Lingnan community with at least four of our Visual Studies graduates involved in the research and teaching throughout the three years,” said Prof Law.  In 2017, the first graduation ceremony of the programme was held on Lingnan campus, allowing the Lingnan community to witness and share the graduates’ joy from art learning.
