National Natural Science Foundation of China delegation visits Lingnan University

The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) delegation, led by Dr Gao Ruiping, Vice President and Member of CPC Leading Group of NSFC, paid a visit to Lingnan University on 25 October. They held productive discussions with Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science of Lingnan University, Prof Sam Kwong Tak-wu, Associate Vice-President (Strategic Research) and Chair Professor of Computational Intelligence, Prof Chen Xi, Dean and Chair Professor of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies, Prof Leng Mingming, Dean of the Faculty of Business, and Ms Sharon Tam, Director of the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer.

 

During the meeting, President S. Joe Qin spoke of Lingnan University’s 135-year-old history, scientific research capabilities, and recent advancements, highlighting Lingnan’s many educational advantages as a leading Asian liberal arts university have successfully attracted academics from top-notch institutions worldwide. He reiterated Lingnan’s dedication to emerging fields such as data science, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and carbon neutrality. President Qin also expressed particular interest in future collaborations and opportunities for knowledge exchange with the NSFC.

 

Dr Gao Ruiping provided an overview of the Foundation and its Hong Kong and Macao funding programmes. She said that Lingnan University has strong scientific research capabilities, and attracts outstanding researchers from around the world. The University’s emphasis on its industry-academia-research approach is most impressive, and she welcomes Lingnan University’s participation in the NSFC’s projects.

 

The delegates went on a campus tour organised by the Office of Institutional Advancement and Public Affairs, and visited the Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiative Office and the science laboratory after the meeting.
