APIAS ceremony celebrating achievements of Students and Happy Ageing with Chinese Medicine Project
The Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS) of Lingnan University successfully hosted the Celebration of Achievements Ceremony for Students and Happy Ageing with Chinese Medicine Project on 18 November to commend Lingnan students and secondary school students for their excellent performance in Chinese medicine community promotion and the Youth Health Ambassador training workshops for the Students and Happy Ageing with Chinese Medicine Project in 2023. About 300 people came from elderly centres, secondary schools, and Lingnan University.
In his welcome speech, Prof Dickson Chan Chak-kwan, Director of APIAS, emphasised that the project inherits Chinese traditional cultures, promotes intergenerational integration, and embodies the cross-sector cooperation between Chinese medicine practitioners, social welfare organisations, and teaching and research units.
Chinese Medicine Promotion Leader Chen Pei-yan shared with audience the Chinese medicine presentation she has designed, and visits to different elderly centres. “My work is meaningful and I have a positive influence on the elderly.”
At the public seminar on “Chinese Medicine for Weight loss and Varicose Veins”, two Chinese medicine practitioners from the Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association (Chinese Medicine Service) explained weight management methods and varicose vein treatments from the perspective of Chinese medicine. They also demonstrated acupoint massage, using “wooden sparrow” tools.
Funded by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, the Students and Happy Ageing with Chinese Medicine Project was launched by APIAS in early 2020. In 2023, it has served over 200 students and 1,000 elders in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, and Kwai Tsing districts.
