Lingnan University co-hosts QS Higher Education Summit Asia Pacific 2024 to forge strategic partnerships in higher education sector

Lingnan University co-hosted the QS Higher Education Summit Asia Pacific 2024 from 5 to 7 November at the Macau University of Science and Technology, with the theme “Shifting Landscapes, Collaborative Solutions: Pioneering Innovation in Asia Pacific Higher Education”. The summit marked its 20th anniversary in 2024, and aimed to forge valuable partnerships within the higher education sector. Attended by about 1,500 educators, leading thinkers and academics, the three-day summit held dynamic panel discussions on a wide range of pertinent issues, covering key topics such as leveraging the power of AI, fostering lifelong learning ecosystems, and navigating the unfolding higher education landscape.

Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science at Lingnan University, delivered the opening speech at the welcome ceremony, and emphasised Lingnan’s goal of becoming a comprehensive university of arts and sciences in the digital era, pursuing groundbreaking research and innovations that align with the summit’s themes of modernisation and collaboration. As the closest government-funded University to Shenzhen, Lingnan plays a pivotal role in contributing to the development of the Greater Bay Area, which encompasses both Macau and Hong Kong.
Throughout the three-day event, the Summit provided a vital platform for exchanging ideas, research collaboration, and best practices that shape the future of higher education both locally and worldwide.
Prof Xin Yao, Vice-President (Research and Innovation) and Tong Tin Sun Chair Professor of Machine Learning at Lingnan University, led the panel discussion titled “AI for Higher Education and Higher Education for AI” with distinguished scholars on 6 November, exploring the transformative impact of AI on higher education and how higher education institutions are preparing students to prosper in the AI-driven future.
