Life without limits – Beauty pageant winner Henna Liu Yeuk-tung
While some people just want to be good at dancing, I aspire to be a luminous star on the stage.
Encouraged by her friends, Henna Liu Yeuk-tung (Human Resource Management, Year 3) bravely stepped onto the stage in 2024, and emerged as Hong Kong’s winning contestant in the 19th Miss Global City Pageant. Yet Henna’s dream is not limited to this. She is determined to seize every opportunity and carve out a life of limitless possibilities.
Henna jokes that her dream of performing on stage was sparked by her admiration for the stars, as she loves watching her idols. She dedicates her spare time to dancing, joining dance troupes and forming a Korean-style girl group, Xenon. Xenon not only participated in the “BACK to SCHOOL Party 2024”, but was also invited to South Korea as the guest performer for the Mid-Autumn Festival dinner at Inspire Entertainment Resort.

To Henna, dancing goes beyond merely moving to the beat: it's a journey of self-improvement. “While dancers mostly focus on body movements, and enjoy exploring and developing their bodies, I believe dancing helps me improve myself too, and become a better person. While some people just want to be good at dancing, I aspire to be a luminous star on the stage.”
Reflecting on her vibrant university life, Henna cherished her role as emcee at the 2024 Lingnan University Singing Contest - an experience she describes as challenging yet enriching. She shares, “Being an emcee is not easy. It's not just about reciting lines and managing the event's flow, but also handling unforeseen situations, which test your ability to think on your feet. The experience bolstered my confidence on stage, and I'm grateful to Lingnan for these opportunities to develop.”
Henna also enjoys her hostel life at Lingnan: “These three years in the hostel have taught me to take care of myself and helped me to become independent. Compared to other universities, I feel that Lingnan gives me more of a sense of belonging and home.”
Henna lives by the motto “Trust the process”, firmly believing that life is a learning process. She elaborates, “From a blank sheet of paper to a successful individual certainly requires ongoing development. Just like dancing, the journey might be difficult, but perseverance leads to success.”
Looking to the future, Henna aspires to become an outstanding Key Opinion Leader (KOL). In an era where Generation Z tend to be “slashers”, she is now actively learning about business, and joining chambers of commerce to expand her social network. Thinking outside the box opens up a myriad of opportunities, and Henna encourages everyone not to limit themselves, “Life is a one-time journey, so if you're interested in something, definitely go for it!”
