Lingnan University wins seven awards in 2024-25 USFHK Taekwondo Competition - Chan Po-sang clinches third consecutive championship
The 2024-25 USFHK Taekwondo Competition, organised by The University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China, ended on 23 March. This year, the Lingnan University Taekwondo team obtained impressive results with seven awards. Among the winners, Chan Po-sang (Sports Coaching and Event Management, Year 4) gave a dazzling performance and won the USFHK Taekwondo Competition championship for the third consecutive year.

Q: How do you feel about winning the championship?
Po-sang: I'm truly delighted! Winning the USFHK Taekwondo Competition championship for the third year in a row has been no small feat. Every victory was hard-earned, especially in this year's second match, where I faced the previous champion of the under 80kg category. He came out strong right from the start, making the scoreline dangerously close. In that moment, I relied on my extensive competition experience to quickly regain my composure, focus on my defence, and ultimately secure victory.
Q: How did you prepare for this competition?
Po-sang: Besides a good technique, competition experience and mental strength are equally crucial. To prepare for the competition, the team captain and I actively reached out to various university teams for joint training sessions and exchanges, gaining valuable practical experience. I also reviewed my competition schedule and watched footage of my opponents’ past matches to understand their fighting styles. Based on this, I created strategies and stuck to them during the competition.
Q: How has Lingnan University contributed to your progress in Taekwondo?
Po-sang: I'm really grateful to Lingnan University for their training facilities, including the new indoor fitness room just for the University team. It's been incredibly helpful for maintaining our muscle strength and competitive condition. Plus, the university allocates funds each year to replenish equipment like protecters and kick pads, which lets us train more effectively with new gear.
I was honoured to receive the titles of Best Athlete and Outstanding Athlete of Martial Arts at Lingnan University for the 2022-23 academic year, which included financial support. As captain, I led our team to win the Outstanding Sports Team Award. I truly believe the university provides generous resources to support its athletes.
Q: Is there anyone you would particularly like to thank?
Po-sang: I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my master, the coaches at the Lok Wah Taekwondo Club, and Miss Hui, the current coach of the Lingnan University Taekwondo Team. I am also grateful for the support of all my teammates, as well as my seniors, juniors, family, girlfriend, and friends.
Additionally, I want to extend my thanks to Mr Or, the former coach of the Lingnan team, who organised an enriching exchange trip to Thailand. That experience, sparring with top university and national teams, was invaluable and has greatly benefitted my development.
Q: What are your future goals?
Po-sang: I aspire to becoming a professional athlete. Since childhood, I've always thought representing Hong Kong in competitions would be a great honour. I want to join the Hong Kong, China Delegation and look forward to more opportunities to participate in international events so as to fulfil my childhood dream. I also hope that one day everyone will see me on television!

Lingnan University Men's Basketball Team reaches Championship Final on 6 April
The Lingnan University Men's Basketball Team has fought their way to the Championship Final of the 2024-25 AIA Intercollegiate Basketball Competition organised by The University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China. In a thrilling semi-final match against the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Lingnan emerged victorious. They will now compete for the championship title against the University of Hong Kong.
