Lingnan has nine broad and individual subjects in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026
Nine broad and individual subjects at Lingnan University are in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, with over half improving year-on-year. Computer Science and Information Systems appears on the list for the first time.
Lingnan University has achieved outstanding results in the international higher education organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2026. Nine broad and individual subjects were ranked, and more than half moved up. Philosophy came in the top three in Hong Kong, and Computer Science and Information Systems was included in the list for the first time, showing Lingnan’s considerable recent progress in developing interdisciplinary research in artificial intelligence and data science, which has gained widespread recognition from the international academic community. QS stated that only three Hong Kong universities have achieved a net overall improvement, with Lingnan University among the most improved.
Lingnan University is ranked in the Arts and Humanities broad subject area, as well as in eight individual subjects. These include Business and Management Studies, Communication and Media Studies, Computer Science and Information Systems, Economics and Econometrics, Education and Training, English Language and Literature, Philosophy, and Sociology. Five of these, Arts and Humanities, Business and Management Studies, Communication and Media Studies, Economics and Econometrics, and Education and Training, have moved up the ranks year-on-year.

Philosophy: Third in the Hong Kong SAR; 14th in the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Taiwan region; and 20th in Asia.
Communication and Media Studies: 11th in the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Taiwan region.
English Language and Literature: 14th in the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Taiwan region.
