Lingnan University organised the “Lingnan University Fundraising Dinner 2015” today (2 June) at Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers, Tsim Sha Tsui. The event met with enthusiastic response from the University’s alumni, staff, students and friends from different sectors of society. The dinner, attended by about 500 guests, raised over HK$3.4 million to support the University’s student development programmes.

The dinner was honoured by the presence of Mr Antony Leung, former Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government and Group Chief Executive Officer of Nan Fung Group, as the guest speaker. Apart from delivering a talk on the topic “Balanced Participation and Effective Governance”, Mr Leung also presented souvenirs to sponsors of the event together with officiating guests including Mr Rex Auyeung Pak-kuen, Council Chairman, Prof Leonard K Cheng, President and Prof Albert Ip Yuk-keung, Council Member and Chairman of the Institutional Advancement Committee of Lingnan University.

In his welcoming address, Mr Rex Auyeung Pak-kuen said that the Fundraising Dinner, being the first event of its kind for Lingnan, received an overwhelming response from the community. “This truly surpassed our expectations, and the success of this event of course has something to do with the presence of Mr Antony Leung and the support of every one of you with us tonight,” said Mr Auyeung.

On the other hand, President Leonard K Cheng said in order to give the best education to Lingnan students, the University has put much time and effort into raising funds and finding additional resources to support student development programmes. “This is our first Fundraising Dinner and I am thrilled to announce that we have successfully raised over HK$3.4 million. The success of the Dinner owes much to the support of our colleagues, alumni, guests and especially the dinner’s many generous sponsors,” said President Cheng.
