Lingnan University Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies hosts Chinese Medicine Education in the Community seminar

29 Oct 2024

The Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS) of Lingnan University organised the first Chinese medicine and healthcare seminar of the Chinese Medicine Education in the Community Project on 24 October 2024. This seminar was conducted both face-to-face and online, so as to instruct the public on promoting healthcare through the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine. It was attended by almost 600 people, over 110 in person, and two representatives of the Chinese Medicine Development Fund.

The main speaker was Ms Tam Yi-shun, a registered Chinese medical practitioner from the Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association, who explained the applications of "Overview of Nine Body Constitutions", "Chinese Nutritional Food Therapy" and "Health-Enhancing Acupoints" in health management, and also provided practical lifestyle advice, including everyday living and dietary recommendations, as well as health tips such as ear acupressure and herbal soups.

This seminar is part of the Chinese Medicine Education in the Community Project, sponsored by the Chinese Medicine Development Fund in order to create a community-based, multi-benefit platform promoting the knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine and the Chinese culture, and showing the elderly how to stay healthy in later life. The project’s intergenerational co-learning model facilitates interaction between young and old, encourages the principles of preventative healthcare in Chinese medicine, and fosters mutual understanding and respect to achieve harmony between old and young.
