Lingnan University Collaborates with Government and NGOs for Sustainable Development
Lingnan University actively contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through its membership in prominent organizations such as the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Sustainable Campus Consortium (HKSCC). These collaborations include not only the eight UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong but also various non-governmental organizations and community stakeholders. This collective approach enhances the university's capacity to contribute to sustainability efforts and fosters cooperation among local universities and NGOs in addressing pressing global challenges through shared knowledge and resources.
Lingnan University actively collaborates with government and non-government organisations and makes direct contribution to national and regional SDG policy development - including identifying problems and challenges, developing policies and strategies, modelling likely futures with and without interventions, monitoring and reporting on interventions, and enabling adaptive management.

Inclusive Business and Social Innovation - Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiative
Lingnan University’s Entrepreneurship Initiative promotes sustainable growth through Inclusive Business (IB) and Humanitarian Technology (HT), building partnerships with universities, businesses, and NGOs across Asia. By collaborating with the BoP Innovation Centre and establishing the Asia Inclusive Business Hub with nine Philippine universities, Lingnan advances capacity building, research, and social innovation. Through international collaboration and shared research projects, Lingnan and its partners develop best practices for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Student Volunteering Programmes
Lingnan University actively collaborates with NGOs such as the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, Food Angel, and Fu Tai Neighbourhood Elderly Centre to implement student volunteering projects that engage with the community. These initiatives aim to promote mental health (SDG 3), enhance understanding of diverse cultures and reduce discrimination (SDG 10), and provide lifelong training to the general public, including children and the elderly (SDG 4). Through these partnerships, Lingnan reinforces its commitment to service-oriented education, empowering students to make a positive impact on society.
Research Programmes
Since 2022, Lingnan University collaborates with the British Council and universities across the UK, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia to explore significant issues related to higher education and SDG 4: Quality Education. This partnership not only emphasizes the importance of providing equitable and inclusive quality education but also aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. One notable initiative is the Partnerships and Exchanges Baseline Research (PEER) project, led by Coventry University, which unites 20 academics to investigate socio-economic contexts and institutional arrangements that promote effective partnerships in education. Through this international collaboration, Lingnan aims to strengthen its relationships with key universities and contribute valuable insights to enhance educational policies and practices across the region. Through these important international collaborations, Lingnan Universities and the partners also gather and measure data for the SDGs.
Development of Educational Resources
To support its commitment to "Education for ALL" and "Life-Long Education," Lingnan University actively develops educational resources through various programs, including workshops on generative AI offered by the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC). These free online seminars are designed for a diverse audience, including community members, NGOs, and students. In 2023/2024, over 700 participants enhanced their understanding of AI and its applications. Additionally, through the Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiatives (LEI), the university encourages students to explore entrepreneurship as a sustainable career option, aligning with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). LEI supports innovation and impact by providing funding for student ventures, emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurship in driving change. Together, these efforts reflect Lingnan's dedication to fostering educational opportunities and collaborative partnerships (SDG 17) that contribute to the broader goals of quality education (SDG 4) and sustainable development.

By collaborating with key stakeholders—including students, staff, alumni, local residents, government agencies, NGOs, minority groups, and displaced individuals—Lingnan fosters a collective effort to promote inclusivity and social responsibility, thereby contributing significantly to the realization of the SDGs.
Empowering Communities through Service-Learning for SDGs
Lingnan University's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is exemplified through its inspiring service-learning projects. Our students actively participate in four key types of Service-Learning—Direct Service, Indirect Service, Research-Based Service, and Advocacy Service—each designed to promote healthy lifestyles and well-being for all. These initiatives not only encourage innovative solutions but also reflect our dedication to fostering positive change within the community.
Free Workshops and Resources for SDG Education
In alignment with Lingnan University's commitment to "Education for ALL" and "Life-Long Learning," the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) offers a range of free workshops focused on generative AI. These accessible online seminars cater to a diverse audience, including senior citizens, secondary school students, individuals with disabilities, NGOs, government agencies, business partners, and the wider community. In the 2023/2024 academic year, over 300 students, 150 staff members, and more than 200 community participants engaged in these workshops, enhancing their understanding of generative AI and its practical applications—an effort that supports the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal of ensuring "Quality Education" for all.
Student Enterprises Promoting Sustainable Development Goals
At Lingnan University, student entrepreneurship is a vital avenue for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations. Through localized actions and innovative initiatives, the university fosters an entrepreneurial spirit among students, encouraging them to view entrepreneurship as a viable career path that can drive meaningful change. With various funding opportunities, including the Startup Trial Fund and the Lingnan University Entrepreneurship Fund, students are empowered to launch businesses that prioritize social good, inclusivity, and sustainability, thereby contributing to a brighter future for all.
Fostering Productive Ageing and Intergenerational Harmony through O Camp 2.0
Lingnan University proudly collaborated with RTHK Radio 5, the New Territories West Elder Academies Cluster, and Wofoo Social Enterprises to host O Camp 2.0 on June 17, aimed at promoting productive ageing and fostering intergenerational harmony. This engaging event attracted over 500 participants, including seniors, primary and secondary school students, and LU student ambassadors. Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, such as a lecture on "Exploring the Metaverse" and a hands-on experience with gerontechnology products, culminating in the exciting "Multi-age Groups Uploaded Avatars to Facebook in One Hour" SDG World Record Challenge, where participants collectively created and uploaded their virtual avatars.

Lingnan University Leads Discussions at THE Global Sustainable Development Congress 2024
Lingnan University proudly participated in the Global Sustainable Development Congress, held in Bangkok from June 10-13, 2024. This prestigious event, organized by Times Higher Education (THE) and co-hosted by Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, gathered nearly 3,000 attendees, including universities, government agencies, NGOs, and businesses. Lingnan engaged in a keynote talk and a panel discussion focused on advancing sustainability and addressing critical climate change challenges. As part of our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), showcasing our dedication to fostering collaboration and innovative approaches in the pursuit of sustainable development.
