Lingnan student entrepreneur awarded Wen Wei Po Future Star Scholarship for developing the GBA market
Excelling among outstanding students from nine tertiary institutions, Eddie Chan Kong-man, a Year-4 student entrepreneur at Lingnan University pursuing a BLA (Hons) in Global Development and Sustainability, has received the Wen Wei Po Future Star Scholarship 2023/24 in the tertiary category, acknowledging his considerable academic achievements and engagement in social initiatives.

Focusing on the potential of China's flaxseed industry, Eddie and his entrepreneur partners in Guangzhou have developed a flaxseed extraction technology that has earned them multiple entrepreneurial awards in Hong Kong and Macao. Talking about this, Eddie recalls making the crucial decision to seek support from venture capital institutions in order to propel their company's growth.
This entrepreneurial journey has offered Eddie many unforgettable experiences.
“To find the right venture capital firm, I did a lot of research and network building. With our team’s comprehensive business plan, we effectively showcased the company’s competitiveness and sustainable growth strategy in meetings and negotiations. Eventually, we secured an agreement with a prominent investment company, marking a significant milestone in our journey. This achievement fills me with pride and strongly motivates me to pursue entrepreneurial goals.”
As a Lingnanian, he wholeheartedly embodies Lingnan's motto of “Education for Service” by actively engaging in social affairs and youth talent exchange between Hong Kong and Mainland China, helping young people to understand the Greater Bay Area. “As well as participating in the YDC Youth Ambassador Programme co-organised by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and the Youth Development Commission of the HKSAR, I have established the Bay Area International Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association under the guidance of Outlook New Era magazine. Through corporate visits, internships, and exchanges, we provide invaluable opportunities for Hong Kong's younger generation to seize the potential offered by the Greater Bay Area policy."
Eddie engages actively in youth talent exchange.
In future, his company will explore new market opportunities within the Belt and Road regions. "By collaborating with local professional institutions, we will have accurate market insights and business opportunities. At the same time, we will actively seek suitable partners to expand the market,” Eddie says, “and I will continue to concentrate on nurturing the potential of young people, as well as promoting policies and initiatives for youth development."
