Lingnan’s President visits renowned economist and Lingnanian Prof Gregory Chow

A series of alumni interview activities has officially begun. The first session, led by Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science of Lingnan University, featured a conversation with distinguished Lingnan alumnus and renowned economist Prof Gregory Chow Chi-chong in the US.

 

Prof Chow shared, "My two elder brothers and I studied at Lingnan because my family considered Lingnan the best school. My older and second brothers studied at Lingnan University before going to the US for further studies, and I followed suit."

 

He was born in Guangzhou, China in 1930, and is now a prominent economist worldwide for his years of expertise in econometrics and dynamic economics. Prof Chow holds distinguished positions as a Professor of Economics and Professor of Political Economy at the prestigious Princeton University, and has made lifelong contributions to the field, most notably the widely-used "Chow Test." During the interview, he remained nostalgic about the deep-rooted connections with Lingnan University since his childhood.

Prof Gregory Chow was among the first cohort of honorary graduates at Lingnan University in 1994 when he was awarded Doctor of Laws.

President Qin shared the latest development about Lingnan University with Prof Chow. He mentioned that a new Science Building will be constructed, with the top floor planned to be the Lingnan Historical Museum, showcasing the University's rich historical resources. It is expected that such initiative will reconnect generations of Lingnan alumni and set out the glorious history, milestones, and accomplishments of Lingnan University since 1888.
