Experiential learning: porcelain artistry at Lingnan's workshop
Lingnan University’s Chamber of Young Snow Art Exhibition Hall partnered with Fifthday Studio to organise “A Hands-on Journey of Traditional Ceramic Art: Porcelain Decoration Workshop” on 16 and 30 July. The workshop allowed participants to experience the creative process and craft unique ceramic works.
The event began with participants touring the Chamber of Young Snow Art Exhibition Hall to admire the gallery's collection of some 30 Chinese paintings and ceramics dating from the Song Dynasty to the 20th century.
Afterwards, under the guidance of Beavis, an instructor of Fifthday Studio, participants had the chance to paint creative blue-and-white designs or apply a specially formulated glaze to create a crackle effect on pre-prepared ceramics. Their unique and personalised pieces incorporated not only traditional elegant blue-and-white patterns but also cartoon characters, plants, and geometric motifs.

Amy, who took part in the workshop, shared her delight, "This was my first time coming to Lingnan University, and I was amazed by the beautiful campus. I'm grateful that the university organised this event to let the public participate and experience the joy of making ceramics."
Also making her first step into Lingnan campus, Wincy found the workshop very interesting. "In addition to knowing more about ceramic techniques and theories, I was thrilled to appreciate the featured exhibits at the Chamber of Young Snow Art Exhibition Hall, which deepened my historical understanding through a guided tour." She looked forward to more art workshops hosted by Lingnan for public participation in the future.
