Lingnan University participated for the first time in the 4th Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions Hong Kong (AEII) held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 5 to 6 December 2024. Lingnan won a total of three awards, including 1 Gold Medal and 2 Silver Medals, among more than 140 innovative projects from all over Asia. The three award-winning projects, which apply AI technology to address technological challenges faced by different sectors of society, were developed by a research team led by Prof Sam Kwong Tak-wu, Associate Vice-President (Strategic Research), Acting Dean of the School of Data Science, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and J.K. Lee Chair Professor of Computational Intelligence.
The Gold Medal-winning research project is an artificial intelligence model capable of “intelligent flocking strategy”, which enables multiple simultaneously operating drones or other robotic systems to improve their robustness and adaptability in complex, dynamic and adversarial environments. The application of the technology can be extended to areas such as intelligent logistics and mobile surveillance, aligning with the key strategies proposed by the Central and Hong Kong governments for developing the low-altitude economy.
Lingnan University successfully hosted the China and Higher Education Conference 2024, a collaborative endeavour with The University of Manchester, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, and the Asia Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership (APHERP). Themed "Collaboration and Change: Unleashing the Possibilities for Chinese Higher Education Ahead", the event was held on 18 to 19 November 2024, attracting over 400 scholars and students from across the globe, including Finland, Ghana, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, Mainland China, Mexico, Norway, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, both in-person and virtually.
