Lingnan University hosted a Reception for Counsellors on 29 November 2024 at Lingnan@WestKowloon. Members of Lingnan described the most recent achievements of our liberal arts education in the digital era to career counsellors and teachers from 30 international schools in Hong Kong, a strong presence from the sector.

The afternoon began casually with guests and members of the University enjoying a cordial exchange over lunch at the hotel W Hong Kong. There were then two interactive sessions on our M+ campus, where Lingnan’s undergraduate curriculum was explained.

The first session, hosted by Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost Prof Raymond Chan Hon-fu and Director of Office of Service-Learning Prof Albert Ko, and moderated by Registrar Ms Margaret Cheung, outlined Lingnan’s development in the digital era with a particular focus on the integration of data analytics and artificial intelligence into undergraduate studies, from AI-integrated subjects to a Generative AI course for all students. The session also examined Lingnan’s flexible curriculum, highlighting the Service-Learning component that melds academic studies with impactful community service. These innovations, along with small-class teaching and close student-faculty interaction, have contributed to the high student satisfaction rate in teacher support and educational quality. Recent accomplishments of our alumni in different fields, illustrating the university’s motto, “Education for Service” were announced.

Two enthusiastic students, Ana Mendes Gonçalves from Brazil, who is studying Government and International Affairs, and Manav Jhaveri, an Accounting and Corporate Governance major, spoke in the second session. Ana discussed her active engagement in campus programmes, as well as her decision to study in Hong Kong, citing the city’s vibrancy and the academic rigour of its universities. Manav talked about how his active participation in extracurricular activities and comprehensive international curriculum at high school prepared him to excel at a research-focused liberal arts university.

The afternoon ended with a tour of the state-of-the-art learning facilities and hubs on the M+ campus, leaving guests with a very favourable impression of Lingnan’s vibrant academic community.
