Lingnan co-organises HKASMSS Student Conference – and four SIS SCEM students receive awards for innovative research
The Lingnan University School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS) co-organised the 8th HKASMSS Student Conference on Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation and Exercise Science 2024 cum Lingnan SIS SCEM Research Day 2024 on 23 November 2024. The theme was “Sports Health Music: An Interdisciplinary Approach”, and the opening ceremony was presided over by Dr Raymond So, Director of Elite Training Science and Technology of the Hong Kong Sports Institute, President-elect of the Asian Federation of Sports Medicine, Dr Gary Mak, Cardiologist, Past President and Advisor of Sports Medicine and Sports Science Association of Hong Kong, China (HKASMSS), and Prof Jonathan Fong, Associate Dean (Administration and Education) of SIS.

In the keynote lecture, Prof Ip Kim-ho, Professor of Practice and Head of the Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit at Lingnan University and other leading scholar spoke about sports health and music.

Thirty undergraduates from the Sports Coaching and Event Management (SCEM) programme presented their junior research projects at the conference, and four students received prizes:
1st prize, Project Proposal: Wong Sik-yin
1st prize, Capstone Project: Don Leung Tsz-hing
2nd prize, Capstone Project: Zion Wong Shek-on
3rd prize, Capstone Project: Wong Ka-him
Wong Sik-yin (Year 4) won the 1st prize in the project proposal category. His innovative research project, a joint universities General Research Fund project exploring the use of music and Taekwondo to enhance the physiological abilities of children with autism, stood out among more than 20 projects from prestigious institutions including The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the University of Hong Kong. This significant achievement underscores the quality of Lingnan’s SCEM programme, which was launched in 2022.
