Lingnan University has achieved remarkable success in international academic rankings in recent months. In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027 released in September, Lingnan made a significant leap from the 301–350 band to 257th among 2,297 institutions across 118 countries and regions, climbing nearly 100 places to show the highest improvement among the Hong Kong SAR’s eight UGC-funded universities.
The THE World University Rankings are based on five core pillars of evaluation: teaching, research environment, research quality, international
outlook, and industry.
Eight subjects in the 2026 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects
Lingnan has also achieved outstanding results in the 2026 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), with eight subjects on the list, nearly two times more than last year.
This year’s featured subjects are Artificial Intelligence, Business Administration, Computer Science and Engineering, Education, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Economics, Management, and Sociology.
Five of these, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, and Sociology, are ranked for the first time. And Artificial Intelligence made its debut on the list last year, saw a significant leap in its ranking, breaking into the global top 100 for the first time in the 76th to 100th band.
GRAS evaluates universities based on five key dimensions: world-class faculty, world-class output, high-quality research, research impact, and international collaboration. The ranking spans 57 subjects across five broad categories: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
