Humanitarian innovation and invention projects developed by the United Nations University Hub on Humanitarian Innovation and Technology at
Lingnan University have won five awards at the 2026 European Product Design Award (EPDA).

Among the winning projects, “Incuvia: Modular Foldable Baby Incubator” (Incuvia) secured three awards. These included the “Design for Humanity” Special Award, which selected only 10 winning entries worldwide this year, making Lingnan the only institution among Hong Kong’s eight UGC-funded universities to be selected in the top 10, bringing honour to the city. Incuvia was also awarded “Top Design” in the Industrial/Healthcare: Medical Products category, the highest honour in the category. Meanwhile, “PureAura: Portable Mini Energy-saving Air Purifier” (PureAura) won two awards.

Participating in the EPDA for the first time, Lingnan was ranked 44th globally, standing alongside world-leading academic institutions and internationally renowned corporations — a strong recognition of the university’s innovative strength in humanitarian research and design.

To date, Incuvia has accumulated 14 international design awards, including the Red Dot Design Award and Good Design Award, two of the world’s four most influential design awards. Meanwhile, PureAura has amassed 16 international design awards. By winning the iF Design Award (Gold Award) in 2024, alongside the Good Design Award Best 100, the Red Dot Design Award, and the IDEA Design Award (Social Impact Gold Award), it has achieved a “Grand Slam” of the world’s four most influential design accolades.
