Lingnan and international scholars discuss development of general education

Prof Mark McGinley, Director of Core Curriculum and General Education participated in two general education conferences in June, namely the “General Education Conference 2017: Evolution and Transformation” organised by the Federation for Self-financing Tertiary Education (FSTE) from 15 to 16 June and the “2017 Institute on General Education cum Teacher and Student Conference” organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 27 to 30 June.  International scholars and local professors committed to general education gathered for best practice sharing and exchange of views.

 

Prof McGinley presented on the topic “Using Mathematical Modelling Approaches to Inform Design of General Education Courses” on both occasions, generating fruitful discussions with experts from around the globe.  In the FSTE conference, Prof McGinley served on a panel discussion with representatives from other local institutions to discuss on closer partnership for general education.  At the CUHK conference, he delivered jointly with colleague from the Office of Service-Learning a poster presentation titled “Service-Learning in a Non-traditional Education Environment”.
