Issue No. 84 Feb 2019
Organised by the Science Unit, a science seminar “Insect Chemical Ecology: Bugs can be chemists, too” was held on 19 February with around 70 participants including Lingnan students and staff.
Dr Stephen DEYRUP, Associate Professor of the School of Population Health in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences of the University of Auckland introduced the basics of chemical ecology and shared his experience and interesting stories about his research on plants and insects, in particular different species of fireflies. Participants were highly engaged and impressed with his use of an interactive game-based learning platform, “Kahoot!”, which not only helped recall what they had learnt in the seminar, but also aroused their interest to explore the environment around.
