NSO 2023 - New Students (Type A)
Welcome to Lingnan University and the New Student Orientation (NSO)!
The University provides essential information and supporting network for new students through face-to-face and online programmes carried out in New Student Orientation (NSO).
NSO aims at helping you adjust to university life and build up necessary relationships. NSO includes Welcome Address by the President, talks, library and campus introductions and connections with university staff, etc.

- Access to the "Online Reporting System"
- Activate your Lingnan computer account
- Academic advising
- Decide whether you will apply student hostel
- non-local degree seeking undergraduate students do not need to submit hostel application in their first year of study. The Office of Student Affairs will contact you for hostel room assignment;
- self-financed programmes students please contact your programme office about hostel application.

NSO Kaleidoscope
NSO Kaleidoscope is a series of sharing sessions for new students to familiarise themselves with and adjust to university life. All new undergraduate degree-seeking students are required to join one of the following activities on 25 August 2023:

C. Setting Sail for your Future: Establishing Goals and Heading for your University Journey This workshop will help you navigate more confidently and successfully as you prepare to sail. It will guide you to set goals for your next four years at university. |

E. "Knock, Knock!" Welcome Home: Design Your Hostel Doorplate* This workshop aims to provide tips for new students on how to adapt to hostel living, as well as preparing themselves to face the possible challenges in their hostel life. Throughout the workshop, students may share their expectations about hostel and mingle with other new students. |

NOTE:
- Bad Weather Arrangements: When Typhoon Warning Signal No. 1 or 3 or the Amber or Red Rainstorm Warning is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory, NSO should be held as scheduled. When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above is in force or likely to be issued (as announced by the Hong Kong Observatory)/Black Rainstorm Warning is in force at 7:00am or thereafter, NSO will be postponed to 31 August 2023. Please watch out for the announcement of the Hong Kong Observatory and OSA Facebook or OSA Instagram.
- Application for Leave of Absence: New students who are unable to attend the Face-to-Face NSO on 25 August 2023 should apply to the Office of Student Affairs via https://lingnan.asia.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2f6QtqK4k9IJWBg for leave of absence with justification. Completed application should be submitted to the Office of Student Affairs NO LATER THAN 11:59pm, 21 August 2023. Late application will only be considered in the event of force majeure. Permission of leave will be granted only under very exceptional circumstances.

Attendance and ILP units
New students who have completed the NSO 2023 Programmes by 30 September 2023 will be granted 15 ILP units. If the full set of the programmes is not completed, students will be required to make up the 15 ILP units during their course of study.
