New Student Orientation 24 Aug 2026
Welcome to Lingnan University!
The University provides essential information and supporting network for freshmen through face-to-face and online programmes carried out in New Student Orientation (NSO).
NSO aims at helping you adjust to university life and build up necessary relationships. NSO includes Welcome Address by the President, talks, library and campus introductions and connections with university staff, etc.
NSO is composed of three elements:
A. Online Moodle Course from 13 July to 30 September 2026.
B. One-day Programme on 24 August 2026
C. Campus Life Carnival on 3 September 2026
Please login Moodle via myLingnan Portal (Academic Matters Tab > Moodle and ePortfolio) to complete and achieve a Pass in all NSO 2026 Moodle Course (M1) on or before 30 September 2026, which will provide you with all the essential information in order to facilitate your fresh start in Lingnan.

NOTE: Students are required to fulfill “PASS” in all online quizzes in order to earn the ILP units, students need to complete 1 question for acknowledgment.

(1) Please note that the programme details are subject to change. For the most up-to-date information, kindly refer to the latest announcements made by the OSA regarding the arrangements.
(2) In case of a possible Typhoon Signal No.8 or above, or a Black Rainstorm Warning signal, the event will be postponed to 25 August 2026 (Tue). OSA will inform all students of the contingency and arrangements as soon as practicable.

Attend the registered Kaleidoscope Programme
Q1 A1 | What should I do if I cannot attend NSO? All UG students admitted in 2026-27 cohort are required to attend NSO. If you are unable to participate in NSO due to very special reasons, you must apply for NSO Leave of Absence for face-to-face programme on 24 August 2026 via online form on or before 20 August 2026, and complete the Moodle Course (M2) before 30 September 2026. Otherwise, you have to make up for the 15 Integrated Learning Programme credits on your own. |
Q2 A2 | Where can I collect my Student ID Card if I am unable to attend the NSO? You can visit the service counter of Registry to collect your Student ID Card during office hours. |
Q3 A3 | What is the dress code for joining the NSO? Smart causal is preferred; no slippers or shorts are allowed. |
Q4 A4 | Can parents accompany me to participate in the orientation activities and classes? The campus of Lingnan University is open to the public. However, only eligible students are allowed to register and participate in the orientation activities and classes. Parents and visitors are welcomed to wait in the designated areas on campus. |
Q5 A5 | Will the University provide meals for students during NSO? We will provide lunch for new UG students on 24 August 2026. The meal voucher will be distributed at the welcome pack collection station – which is the second step after you collect the Student ID Card. You can also enjoy your meals at the catering outlets on campus, and visit the Learning Commons located on the 2/F of Lau Lee Yuen Haan Amenities Building, where vending machines offer light food with vegetarian and halal ingredients. |
Q6 A6 | What are the arrangements in times of adverse weather? If Typhoon Signal No. 8 or Black Rainstorm Warning is hoisted, or there is a forecast at 7:00am on 24 August 2026 that such signals will be issued within 2 hours, the NSO will be postponed to 25 August 2026. Please pay attention to the broadcasts from the Observatory at 7:00am on 24 August 2026. You can also check the NSO website for updates on the arrangements. |
Q7 A7 | What should I do if I cannot attend the Kaleidoscope programmes in the morning session? You can attempt to walk in during the afternoon session if there are still vacancies available. |
Q8 A8 | Can I register for more than one Kaleidoscope programme? No. Each student can register for only one Kaleidoscope programme. |
Q9 A9 | Can I change my registered Kaleidoscope programme after submission? No. Please think carefully before you submit. In case of technical issues, please contact us via [email protected]. |
Q10 A10 | Can I check-in my hostel after NSO? Yes. You can check-in later. |
Q11 A11 | Can my parents visit my hostel room? Yes. Please fill in the visitor registration form at the security counter of your assigned hostel. The visiting hours are from 7:00am to 11:00pm. Please accompany visitors during their stay in the hostel. The visitor must sign out when leaving the hostel. |
Q12 A12 | If I encounter living issues in the hostel, who can I speak to? You can contact the respective Warden’s Office for assistance. |
Q13 A13 | If I have any questions about NSO, what can I do? You can visit the NSO webpage to search for relevant information. You may also contact the OSA by phone (Tel: 2616 7309) or email (Email: [email protected]) for further assistance when necessary. |
