Yuanxiao Festival 2023 and CNY celebrations on campus

The Office of Student Affairs and Office of Global Education co-organised Yuanxiao Festival 2023 on 6 February which is a carnival gathering Lingnanians from different study levels and diverse cultural backgrounds to celebrate the Lantern Festival that symbolises the union with loved ones.

 

 

 

 

 

 

After three years of suspension during the pandemic, the carnival restored the festive and jubilant atmosphere of the Lunar New Year on campus while showcasing Lingnan’s cultural diversity.

Following the lively Lion Dance Performance by the Lingnan Lion Dance and Martial Arts Team, a wide variety of performances was staged by local and non-local students, including Guzheng and Dizi music performance, Kazakh dance, traditional Thai Khon dancing performance, as well as live music and singing performance by LU Cultural Ambassadors.

Apart from performances, nine cultural booths on handicraft tryouts, giveaways and games of different cultures were set up by local and non-local students, volunteers from Lingnan University Elder Academy and cultural organisations at the Kin Sun Square. Participants enjoyed playing classic Lantern riddles, experiencing the traditional Korean board game “Yutnori”, creating Kyrgyz handicrafts and painting Chinese Opera Masks.

 

And on 8 February, Lingnan’s traditional Hung Mun Feast (紅們夜宴) was held in Wing On Plaza for the first time in three years due to the pandemic. Organised by the Lingnan University Students’ Union, the event featured 50 tables of pun choi and various performances, gathering local and international students, alumni, staff and Lingnanians’ friends to celebrate.
