In response to the needs of dementia patients and their caregivers, the Lingnan University Jockey Club Gerontechnology and Smart Ageing in Place Project (GTSA) team has been promoting a series of health education activities since July 2024, in order to increase public awareness of dementia and build an age-friendly city.
At their public seminar on dementia in collaboration with the Macau Physical Therapists Association (MPTA) on 26 July 2024, Ms Joyce Sitou, President of the MPTA, held a cross-regional education session with the theme “Exercise More and Prevent Dementia”.
In the afternoon, there was the Lingnan Jockey Club Gerontech-X Lab (X Lab) Open Day, where the GTSA team invited trained Gerontechnology Ambassadors to act as guides and explain gerontechnology to visitors, who included staff from NGOs, caregivers, older adults, and technology company representatives. The visitors were able to try out cognitive training tools, and the GTSA team created learning opportunities for young potential leaders. George Cheung Tsun-ho, a student from a service-learning project led the X Lab tour, promoting intergenerational integration.
