Lingnan University’s Teaching and Learning Centre is proud to announce that its innovative IDEAL-Gen.AI (Instructional Design Enhanced Active Learning through Generative Artificial Intelligence) platform has earned international recognition by winning the Bronze Award in the Best Use of AI category at the prestigious QS Reimagine Education Awards and Conference 2025. The IDEAL-Gen.AI platform was developed by the DREAM (Digital Resources for Enhancing Adaptive Methodologies) Team led by Dr Ronnie H. Shroff, Principal Project Fellow of the Teaching and Learning Centre, and is part of the Inter-institutional Collaborative Activities for Teaching Development and Language Enhancement (IICA-TDLE) project.
Prof Li Liangliang, Associate Professor of the Wu Jieh Yee School of Interdisciplinary Studies (WJYSIS) at Lingnan University, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the research and development of new materials chemistry. This honour highlights WJYSIS’s academic influence and value in promoting sustainable development through interdisciplinary innovation and real-world impact.
Founded in 1841, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is one of the world’s most prestigious and influential scientific societies. Each year, it confers fellowships on scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of chemical science.
Lingnan Global Forum 2026: Explores AI and the Future of Humanity
The Lingnan Global Forum 2026 was held on 21 January 2026 in Washington, DC, with Lingnan University hosting an afternoon session supported by the Lingnan Foundation. The Forum, themed “AI and the Future of Humanity,” examined how artificial intelligence is transforming technologies and industries while also reshaping education, governance, human development, and contemporary understandings of humanity.
The 9th Annual Meeting of the Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU)-Lingnan University Cooperative Development Committee recently took place at the Lingnan Hall of the SYSU in Guangzhou. The meeting brought together leaders from both institutions, including Prof Zhang Qi, Vice Chairman of the University Council of the SYSU, and Prof Xin Yao, Vice-President (Research and Innovation) and Tong Tin Sun Chair Professor of Machine Learning at Lingnan University. Attendees included deans, directors, and representatives from schools, research institutes, and administrative departments, and discussions focused on increasing collaboration across multiple fields, including joint research platforms, faculty and student exchanges, talent cultivation, and future cooperation strategies. Both institutions aim to consolidate and expand collaborative projects and modernise partnerships to maximise mutual benefits.
Prof Tang Xiaopeng, Assistant Professor (Presidential Early Career Scholar) of Division of Science at Lingnan University, has been selected as an Outstanding Editorial Board Member by the academic journal Green Energy and Intelligent Transportation (GEITS). The honour recognises his academic leadership and valuable contributions to the publication.
Prof Tang specialises in the modelling and control of energy storage systems and is among the Lingnan scholars listed in Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists. Co-published by Elsevier and other institutions, GEITS is an international English-language sci-tech journal focusing on global green energy, advanced energy storage, and applied technologies—such as decarbonisation, electrification, intelligence, and sharing—that promote sustainable transport. In the 2024 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) released by Clarivate in June 2025, the journal ranked second globally in the field of “Engineering, Transportation Science & Technology”.
Lingnan University organised the second phase “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Elderly Care Industry Expert Exchange and Service Enhancement Event” to improve collaboration and innovation in elderly care services from 20 to 21 November, which was attended by more than 20 delegates from nine community elderly care institutions in the Greater Bay Area. On the first day, representatives from several elderly care institutions visited the Yan Chai Hospital Board, Yan Chai Hospital Jockey Club Care & Attention Home, Yan Chai Hospital Chan Feng Men Ling Integrated Community Development Centre and the Tsuen Wan District Health Centre to learn about the operations and scope of services of community-based elderly care organisations in Hong Kong. The following day, the visitors attended the Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit. They joined guided tours and made focused visits to Lingnan University and the Jockey Club “Age at Home” ageing technology education and leasing service booths.
In order to understand Hong Kong citizens' views on the development of gerontechnology, Lingnan University recently held a public opinion survey. The results show that gerontechnology products related to healthcare and exercise are of the greatest interest to the public, although about 60 per cent of respondents find the cost of such products prohibitively high, which presents a barrier to purchase. At the same time, over 90 per cent hope that the government will increase support for elderly service organisations to adopt gerontechnology, and for research and development. This would stimulate growth and the silver economy, ultimately benefiting more older adults and caregivers.
The 2025 "Yanyuan Wenhua" Chinese Cultural Experience Camp for Hong Kong and International Students, jointly organised by Lingnan University and Peking University, with Beijing Foreign Studies University as co-organiser, ended successfully on 22 December. Planned and coordinated by the Chinese Language Education and Assessment Centre (CLEAC) of Lingnan University, it reflected national youth exchange initiatives as students immersed themselves in a programme blending academic study with hands-on experience to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary China's social culture and historical legacy. Conducted under the guidance of the Department of Language Application and Administration of the Ministry of Education, the programme received strong support from universities in Beijing and Hong Kong. Six Lingnan students - three local Hong Kong students and three international students selected by a rigorous screening process - participated in the programme.
