Lingnan University and the Chamber of Young Snow present an in-depth seminar on the finest Northern Song landscape paintings with Dr Stephen Suen
Dr Stephen Suen explores the philosophy behind three thousand-year-old landscapes.
Jointly organised by Lingnan University and the Chamber of Young Snow, the Chinese culture academic seminar "The Peak of Visual Art — Northern Song Landscape Painting" was held on 2 January 2026 at Lingnan@WestKowloon.
The event featured esteemed speaker Dr Stephen Suen, Founder of the Chamber of Young Snow, who presented a comprehensive view of the era's artistic achievements. Moving from technical execution to aesthetic theory, Dr Suen provided an in-depth analysis of three legendary masterpieces: Fan Kuan’s Travelers Among Mountains and Streams, Guo Xi’s Early Spring, and Li Tang’s Wind in the Pines Among a Myriad Valleys.
Dr Suen examined the philosophy behind these millennium-old works, encouraging the audience to understand why Northern Song landscapes are widely regarded as the pinnacle of visual art. This seminar offered the public a unique opportunity not only to see these three national treasures, but also to engage in a profound aesthetic and philosophical dialogue with history.
Dr Suen is passionate about Chinese art and culture, and his contribution to and support of Lingnan University are of great significance.
Looking ahead, the excitement continues in early March with the opening of a fourth thematic exhibition, generously sponsored by Dr Suen, in the Chamber of Young Snow Art Exhibition Hall on the Lingnan campus.

The Chamber of Young Snow Art Exhibition Hall, Lingnan University, which was generously subsidised by the Chamber of Young Snow, has become a valuable resource for promoting Chinese art and history at the University, an essential hub where students can learn to appreciate cultural heritage, study new artistic forms, and gain experience in exhibition curation.
