University Grants Committee delegation visits Lingnan

Lingnan University welcomed a delegation from the University Grants Committee (UGC) on its Tuen Mun campus on 8 January, and presented its latest developments as a research-oriented liberal arts university comprehensive in arts and sciences.
Mr Tim Lui, Chairman of the UGC, Prof James Tang, Secretary-General of the UGC, and more than 20 UGC members and secretariat staff, were received by the Hon Andrew Yao Cho-Fai, Council Chairman of Lingnan University, Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science, Prof Raymond Chan Hon-fu, Vice-President (Academics) cum Provost and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Scientific Computing, Prof Xin Yao, Vice-President (Research and Innovation) and Tong Tin Sun Chair Professor of Machine Learning, Mr Ernest Chan Chi-man, Vice-President (Administration), faculty and staff, and representatives of the students.
The delegation visited various teaching facilities, including the Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre (WJLCCPRC) laboratory, which features advanced technologies such as a 64-channel EEG system, heart rate variability monitoring, and AI-driven analysis; Black Box Theatre equipped with Hollywood-standard film and animation production facilities, including a curved LED video wall, a 7.1 surround sound environment, a robotic arm, and a fully equipped virtual production set; and the Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit (WBLMP) under the Wu Jieh Yee School of Interdisciplinary Studies. And the staff showcased the outcomes of several recent projects.
Prof Ng Tin-yan (left), Research Assistant Professor of Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Centre (WJLCCPRC), is describing new approaches adopted by the Department of Psychology to integrate neuroscience into psychological research. The flagship Wellness Ambassador Programme, which incorporates technological applications, has been proven to assist participants' physical and mental well-being.
Prof Albert Ko, Director of the Office of Service-Learning and the Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiative, talks about setting up the UNU Hub at Lingnan University, and the humanitarian inventions designed by the faculty and students.

UGC members talk to approximately 50 Lingnan undergraduates and postgraduates from different faculties.
In addition to visiting several departments and learning about the University’s latest research achievements, delegation members met about 50 undergraduates and postgraduates from different faculties, and heard about their vibrant campus life and studies. Lingnan hopes that this will help UGC members to understand the University’s vision for the future, and its educational mission to develop leaders who think critically and possess innovative perspectives.
