Hands-on Learning - Short-term Training

This part goes beyond mere cognition or appreciation and allows students to have firsthand experiences through training courses in various Chinese cultural disciplines (such as calligraphy, ink painting, seal carving, Guangcai ceramics, Ving Tsui, lion dance, and Chinese Opera decorative design). It also covers the application of emerging Art Technologies and Art Curation in promoting Chinese culture. This part provides students with opportunities to gain introductory knowledge and practical skills in Chinese culture through immersive learning experiences.

Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. Learn about the historical and cultural stories of Chinese Chess (Xiangqi);
2. Explore the rules of Chinese Chess (Xiangqi); and
3. Enjoy playing Chinese Chess (Xiangqi).

Description:

Chinese Chess (aka Xiangqi) has been played for hundreds of years and is today still one of the most popular board games in the world, played in China and across Asia. The game is similar to chess, that people who know the rules of chess usually pick it up easily, but also with distinctive Chinese cultural elements, like the unique “knight block” rule and the “Chu river and Han border” on the board.

We welcome all non-chinese speaking students to join this class. You can learn about the stories of Chinese chess in English. Chess sets with graphical pieces will also be prepared.

Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. Learn about the fundamental concepts of Chinese culture;
2. Practice Chinese painting techniques; and
3. Enjoy Chinese painting.

Description:

This course will introduce you basic knowledge and techniques of Chinese painting of Lingnan School. Under teacher's professional guidance, you will experience the colours, structures and philosophy of Chinese painting of Lingnan school during the class.

Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. Learn about the fundamental concepts of Chinese culture;
2. Practice hard pen writings; and
3. Enjoy Chinese calligraphy.

Description:

This course will introduce you basic techniques and knowledge of Chinese Hard Pen Calligraphy. You can practise Chinese calligraphy with professional guidance in class. By practising Chinese calligraphy, you can relieve from your daily stress. Most importantly, you will be more concentrated and mindfulness in learning and practising Chinese calligraphy.

This course will introduce you basic techniques and knowledge of Chinese calligraphy of Kai Shu and Xing Shu. You can practise Chinese calligraphy with professional guidance in class. By practising Chinese calligraphy, you can relieve from your daily stress. Most importantly, you will be more concentrated and mindfulness in learning and practising Chinese calligraphy.
