Happenings: MA in Curating and Art History Curatorial Project@JCCAC

Students of Master of Arts in Curating and Art History (MACAH) are holding three exhibitions Else May the Silent Feet, Travellers, and Echo Past with Memory for the Curatorial Project 2022–23 at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) L1 Gallery from now to 6 August.

Featuring works by 16 well-known local artists, including Yeung Hok Tak, So Hing Keung and Wong Chun Hei, the project demonstrates the artists’ interpretations of local identity, travel, migration, and moving through painting, installations, photography, ready-made objects, video, and other media.

“The curatorial project serves as a capstone experience for MA students,” said Prof Chen Fong Fong, MACAH Associate Programme Director. “This practical hands-on programme makes good use of their previous theoretical learning, allows them to meet museum professionals, and confirms their interests, abilities, and talents in a serious ‘experiment’.”

She pointed out that the collaborative group work benefited students from diverse cultures and backgrounds by offering a local team curatorial perspective within a global context, reflecting the norms of the contemporary art scene.

“This project also involved students in planning public programmes such as artist talks, guided tours, and educational events. Consequently, it provides an understanding of the complexities of the real world, along with all-round work experience and personal growth through learning, independent research, interpersonal communication, hands-on curatorial practice, and public service,” Prof Chen said.
