Lingnan University co-organises International Conference on Social Policy and Governance Innovation
More than 50 scholars from the US, UK, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Poland, Finland, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Norway, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Mainland China, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong gathered in Hong Kong from 24 to 25 November for the 4th International Conference on Social Policy and Governance Innovation: Innovation in Social Service Delivery.
The event was hosted by the Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS) and Division of Graduate Studies of Lingnan University, Department of Asian and Policy Studies of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), and School of Public Administration of South China University of Technology.
In his welcome address on 25 November, Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice-President and Chair Professor of Comparative Policy of Lingnan University pointed out that Lingnan has been actively engaging in promoting collaboration in comparative social policy research and high-level professional trainings. He expected the event to pool efforts of scholars to critically explore the issue of governance innovation in response to rapid social change.
Programmes for the first day were held in EdUHK, while those for the second day were held at Lingnan. The event included keynote speeches, academic presentations and postgraduate panels. A number of Lingnan academics shared their research and vision at the Conference, including Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho who talked about the service, challenges and opportunities of Hong Kong welfare NGOs in China; Prof Stefan Kühner, Assistant Professor of Department of Sociology and Social Policy who shared his research on ideal types of disability policy; Dr Jiang Jin and Dr Wen Zhuoyi, Research Assistant Professors of APIAS, and Dr Qian Jiwei, Affiliate Fellow of APIAS and Research Fellow of National University of Singapore presented their collaborative work on “Social Protection for the Labour Force of Informal Sector in Urban China”.
Students of Lingnan University, EdUHK and The University of Hong Kong attended the event and joined the in-depth discussion with scholars, thus providing them with the opportunities to enrich their learning experiences and develop their theoretical insights.
