International Day 2017 showcases diverse cultures on campus

Lingnan University’s International Day 2017 was held on campus on 18 October.  It is one of the proud traditions of the University with the aim of promoting internationalisation and celebrating the beauty of cultural diversity at Lingnan.

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of Lingnan University’s re-establishment in Hong Kong.  The event is one of the celebration activities for teachers and students of different nationalities to share the joy together.

Carrying the theme of “We Love Lingnan” this year, students of Lingnan from different countries and regions livened up the campus by presenting different performances and booths that feature their traditions and cultures with their amazing talents and creativity.  Just to name a few, there were Korean pop dance, funny skit and duet singing performance.  Students from over 10 different countries shared with teachers and other students their national delicacies, handicrafts and games at their beautifully decorated booths.

Lingnan University puts strong emphasis on cultural exchange because a major objective of its liberal arts education is to broaden students’ international horizon and exposure for their all-round development.  The University has entered into agreements with over 190 partner institutions worldwide, covering about 40 countries in Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe and the Americas. In the current semester alone, Lingnan has received about 160 inbound exchange students from 25 countries or regions from all corners of the world.  Currently one-seventh of Lingnan’s student population is non-local full programme or semester-long exchange students.  About 90% of the University’s undergraduates are able to go on exchange for a semester or attend summer programmes.
