Highlights of 24/25
Fostering Arts and Wellbeing
In our courses, we have arranged opportunities for students to engage with relevant topics through events such as the Forest Healing Music Concert, where MPA3002 & MPA3102 Instrumental Ensemble students play music with SEN learners.
In MPA3001 Musical Expression in Film and Theatre, we have collaborated with the Office of Service-Learning and the NGO SideBySide , enabling students to interview recovered mental illness patients and produce theatre works as their final assessment. This initiative aims to encourage students to explore the topic of mental wellbeing through the medium of performing arts.
In CLB9022 Music and World Cultures, we collaborated with the Lost Child Project Hong Kong to organize the "ÉLAN Eartheatre – Regain the Lost Wings Sharing Session" , where it focuses on nature, art, and wellbeing.
Connections in the Greater Bay Area
The Unit is actively fostering close relationships with institutions in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) region and developing themes centered on wellbeing. With this aim, we have established collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Beijing Normal University & Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) in Zhuhai to start a research-oriented service-learning project "Transcultural and Translingual Dialogues for Arts and Wellbeing".
In course MPA3002 & MPA3102 Instrumental Ensemble, we have arranged a study tour to Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) in Zhuhai, and students have participated in an academic seminar titled Performing Arts and Wellbeing at BNBU (video highlights), where they shared topics on wellbeing with teachers and students, and explored the Six Arts theme from BNBU.
We have also co-organized the seminar Ancient and Modern Musical Events Across Time and Space – Modern Inheritance of Chinese Music, with the Joint Publishing (Hong Kong) Company, where a keynote speaker from the GBA shared insights on Chinese music with students.
Creative Music technology in New Era
Exploring creative technology in music is one of the Unit's goals this year. As part of this initiative, we have officially launched a new minor programme, Minor in Creative Technologies in Music and Community, along with the new course CLA9032 Harmonising Data: GenAI Music Creation for Public Engagement.
