What's ILP

Programme Objectives

  1. Through a co-curricular programme, students pursue their learning of knowledge and skills and establishing a positive attitude of life beyond the classroom.
  2. Through the ILP, students develop their all-rounded personal growth by identifying their talents and planning of career to achieving success.
  3. Through the holistic enrichment activities, students enjoy their university life from the transitional process of new students to become advanced learners during their journey of learning at Lingnan.

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)

At the end of the programme, students will be able to:

  1. Experience a co-curricular programme in the six domains of Civic Education and Leadership Development, Intellectual and Entrepreneurship Development, Physical Fitness and Well-being, Social and Emotional Well-being, Aesthetic Development and Residential Education of the ILP; 
  2. Reflect their learning achievement of the 6-domain ILP enrichment programme; and
  3. Demonstrate a positive attitude and sense of belonging in their learning at Lingnan. 

Objectives of the Six Domains

(i) Civic Education and Leadership Development
This domain aims to develop students’ understanding of both historical and social development in Hong Kong, as well as their awareness of global issues. It also helps to develop students’ ability to analyze their own strengths and weaknesses, set personal and vocational goals, and have the self-esteem, confidence, motivation, and abilities to be the leader in future. Students and office-bearers of student societies could participate in trainings via different modes of learning, including seminars, courses, field trips, community services projects, leadership and executive training, etc.

(ii) Intellectual and Entrepreneurship Development
This domain introduces learning approaches and skills to enhance students’ academic excellence, cultivate interest pursuits, understand science and technology, value creativity and innovation, and acquire knowledge from different sources.  We aim to help students to identify his/her talent to be an entrepreneur through the learning process. Programmes include various talks / workshops / projects on topics of university learning, global perspectives, market trends and entrepreneurship skills.

(iii) Physical Fitness and Well-being
This domain develops students’ healthy lifestyle, physical well-being and recreational leadership. It encourages students to recognize the need for regular physical activity and develop lifelong interests in sports activities. Furthermore, physical well-being content will cover health science knowledge, including medical self-care and illness prevention. Programmes include ball games, water sports, physical fitness, martial arts, first aid and leadership training.

(iv) Social and Emotional Well-being
This domain is to foster students to develop a positive living through enhancing their social skills, positive attitude, and self-understanding in managing emotions arising from pressures in different aspects of life. Students are encouraged to take an active part in improving our world by living in harmony with others. Programmes include self-exploration stress management, communication skills and leadership enhancement.

(v) Aesthetic Development
This domain lies in exhibiting a relationship between life and its aesthetics. Through arts exploration and appreciation from a broad spectrum of activities and workshops, students will experience a flavour of arts and cultures. Programmes include painting, calligraphy, music, performing arts, etc. Through the engagements of the arts and cultures, students will boost their creative confidence, innovative thinking and imaginative expression.

(vi) Residential Education
The domain focuses on whole-person development to enhance students' competences in the following areas:

  • Personal Development like interpersonal communication ability, independence, self-governance ability and intellectual development;
  • Leadership Development includes problem-solving, sense of community and responsibilities, analytic competence and critical thinking; and
  • Language Enhancement and Internationalisation includes activities of Lingnan Language Enhancement Initiative (L²EI), cultural integration and appreciation, and global perspectives.

*Activities under this domain will be mainly provided by Warden Offices for advocating their educational themes as Living Learning Community, and supplemented by OSA, CEAL, CLEAC, various University offices and student bodies.

Terms of Reference

  1. To oversee the administration of registration, attendance records and related arrangements of the Integrated Learning Programme (ILP).
  2. To make recommendations on policy and regulations for the administration of the ILP.
  3. To propose courses to be launched in the ILP.
  4. To review the operation of the ILP.
  5. To advise and report to the Senate on matters relating to the ILP.
  6. To review/ consider and approve, under the delegated authority of the Senate, the ILP course proposal and reports.
