Lingnan University Liberal Arts Virtual Summer Academy 2021

The Virtual Summer Academy is designed to allow students from secondary schools to get a true taste of university education in the summer.
This new programme will offer inspiring classes and workshops to explore new areas of interest through a range of liberal arts subjects in arts, business, science, social sciences and service-learning. By joining our academy, participants will have the opportunity to experience Lingnan’s award-winning liberal arts education, meet like-minded friends and possibly schoolmates-to-be and widen their potential fields to expand their scope of programme choices for the future.

  • Form 4 or 5 secondary school students
  • Year /Grade 10 and above secondary school students

主題: 香港人無屋住關歷史乜嘢事?
內容: 
常言香港「地少人多」,因此住屋問題嚴重。其實這是似是而非的說法。香港住屋只佔用了7%的土地,尚有大量土地仍未開發利用。香港近年面對房屋供應嚴重不足的困局,土地利用成為熱門的社會議題;政府和民間在開發新界、大嶼填海等方案的討論中各抒己見,莫衷一是。其實香港的土地利用和房屋政策有其歷史淵源,亦有階段性的變化;今日的困局基本上是香港「自作自受」的結果。 

 

本課程以持平的視角回顧過去,以理性的態度面對事情的來龍去脈,通過歷史的論述揭開「香港人冇屋住」的真相。

內容: 
是次課程將透過時裝設計、藝術佳餚、室內設計和著名博物館藏品等實例,引領大家從日常生活中探索藝術品味。


當中更會探討藝術與博物館在培養創意發展、生活品味、審美感和批判思考的功能與重要性。

Topic: Dark AI: Can we protect society from robot crimes?
Description:
Intelligent computer systems and robots are not only convenient for their users, but also excellent targets for criminals who might want to take control of them for their own purposes. In this course, we take a look at various ways how AI systems can be misused for criminal purposes and what can be done to address these dangers.

全球氣候變暖,加上近年香港的道路建設和車輛數目不斷增加,每天排放的污染物已達危險水平。而這一年面對新冠肺炎的疫情,又會否為空氣質素帶來新轉變?這個課程將帶領同學認識更多香港空氣污染的實際情況,以及其對公眾健康的影響,了解生活中不同的污染源頭,並探討相應措施的成效。

Topic: Rapid prototyping
Description: 
In this course, students will learn how to design, test, and demonstrate their ideas as prototypes using the online service Tinkercad. They will discover tools for creating prototypes in the form of 3D models, electronic circuits, and software. By the end of the course, they will be familiar with the Tinkercad interface and have experienced an overview of how they can be used. Requires a computer, internet connection, and a free Tinkercad account. Instructions for signing up for an account will be sent before the commencement of the course.

Description: 
In this course, students will learn how to use the principles of storytelling used in movies, literature, and mythology to create compelling stories about their lives, aspirations, and more. They will be able to use these skills both for creative work, as well as use them for student presentations, pitching, and more.

Description: 
The course will highlight the concepts of design thinking and participatory design. Participants will be able to understand the power of these tools in problem-solving through examples such as transparent masks and electric wheelchair design. The students will participate in short interactive activities to try their hands at ideation and the value of collaborative problem-solving.
