Distinguished scholars honoured by international and prestigious academic institutions
Lingnan University has actively attracted and nurtured research talent with international impact. By integrating data science and AI technologies with a range of disciplines, Lingnan has developed an interdisciplinary “AI+X” research approach. Recently, several Lingnan scholars have successively received prestigious honours from international and top academic institutions, highlighting Lingnan’s strong global influence in scientific research innovation and talent cultivation.
Prof Chen Xi
In engineering and computational sciences, Prof Chen Xi, Dean of the Wu Jieh Yee School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Chair Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies, has been elected an ICCES Distinguished Fellow by the International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences. This prestigious honour recognises his outstanding contributions in distributed carbon dioxide capture and utilisation, advanced materials and structures for AI adoption, soft robots, and flexible batteries, making him the sole recipient from higher education institutions in the Hong Kong SAR of this annual distinction.
Prof Song Yongduan
Meanwhile, Prof Song Yongduan, Dean of the School of Data Science and Henry Y. W. Fong Chair Professor of Industrial Data Science, attended the induction ceremony for International Members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in Beijing on 9 July, where he officially received his member plaque. The Professor is one of five scientists with Hong Kong affiliations among the recently elected International Members of the CAE.
In business studies, Prof Leng Mingming, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Chair Professor of Operations and Risk Management, has been invited to join the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Board of Governors. This prestigious appointment follows his recognition as the first Chinese recipient of the BGS’s 2026 Dean of the Year. Award for his extensive expertise and vision in business education. As a Board member, he will provide strategic oversight to the Society alongside distinguished leaders from academia and industry around the world.
Prof Leng Mingming
In addition, Prof Xie Haoran, Associate Dean of the School of Data Science, Professor and Person-in-Charge of the Division of Artificial Intelligence, was newly elected as a member of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering (HKAE) Young Member Section (YMS) in 2026. He is the second young scholar at Lingnan to receive this honour, following Prof Paulina Wong Puiyun, Head and Associate Professor (Presidential Early Career Scholar) of the Division of Science, highlighting Lingnan’s strengths in developing young talent with international impact and furthering high-level research.
