CIO & University Librarian Administration Office
The CIO & University Librarian Administration Office is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the Chief Information Officer, as well as being the contact point for the general enquirers from students, staff and external parties. In addition, the Office also manages the HR matters for the Centre, maintains the software inventory and oversees the office maintenance tasks.
Information Security Manager
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Information Security (IS) Manager works closely with other Sections of ITSC to formulate institutional information security strategies and policies to set up a robust cybersecurity environment and controls to ensure the campus network is secure and the data within it is well protected. In addition, this position will also oversee the enforcement of all cybersecurity measures covering from campus network to endpoints, as well as handling security breach incidents and subsequent investigations, and University-wide information security awareness promotion.
Institutional Research Manager
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Institutional Research Manager plays a critical role in gathering and analyzing institutional data relating to students, budgets, research activities, financial information to support decision-making and strategic planning of the University, preparation of standard reports, development of associated key performance indicators, as well as participating in the design, development, and implementation of the Business Intelligence system for the University.
System and User Service Section (SUS)
User Services Team is responsible for the ITSC counter service and handling hotline enquiries. The team provides user service support in university campus and remote centres, service desk system management, user/classroom onsite support services, IT and AV support for campus wide events, remote site events and IT/AV on loan services, provision of Information Literacy Programme for students and IT training courses for staff, student helper management, Notebook Ownership Programme as well as the orientation programmes for staff and students.
Database Services Team is responsible for the implementation and administration of database systems to support the Banner ERP system, Degree Works system, Business Intelligent system, plus all the application and software systems. The team is also responsible for managing the application programming interfaces between the Banner system, JUPAS, IAM and Smartcard systems, and the database services that supports the application systems as well as the backup and data recovery of the database services.
Application System Services
Application System Services Team is responsible for the system administration of the Banner ERP system, Banner job submission system, Banner web middle tier system, Portal system, eLearning system, Bulk mail management system, LED display wall system and provides application programming interfaces between the systems, ongoing reliability and performance management of the application server hosting system infrastructure to ensure all these systems are stable and operating efficiently. The team also manages the upgrade and patching on the system environment to provide fixing and version updates of the systems.
Server Management Team provides server support to Inventory Management System, Smartcard Systems including the card issuing system and virtual card system, Identity Access Management System, Academic Certificate Verification Platform System and Banner account provision services. The team also manages and plans for the server upgrade and security patching including the validation of the version compatibility and the end-of-life support as well as the support to the Windows Endpoint Configuration Manager and the pilot tests of the software deployment.
Windows Client Server Management
Windows Client Server Management Team manages the campus-wide PC replacement exercise and Windows upgrade, PC assets management, client models development and deployment, campus-wide software licensing management and renewal services and software installation services. The team is also responsible for the Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager system management, software installation and patching, Windows policy management and the printing service.
Application Development Section (ADS)
Enterprise Business Applications
The Enterprise Business Applications Team supports all the application developments, enhancement and support of the Banner Finance, including student accounts receivable, accounts payable, e-Tendering, Purchase and Procurement; Payroll and Cornerstone Human Resources Management System and other financial applications in other platforms. The team is also responsible for supporting the Business Analytics for Data Repository and Annual Reporting, Teaching Load and UGC CDCF Annual Submissions.
Enterprise Academic Applications
The Enterprise Academic Applications Team oversees all the application developments, enhancement and support of the Banner Student Information including JUPAS and Summer Institute admissions, reporting, registration, grade processing, academic records, examinations and degree award, degree audit and advising, class and examination scheduling, and course evaluation. In addition, the team also develops applications in relation to the Enterprise Human Resources System, and Student hostel application and access systems.
Web Sites and e-Learning
The Web Sites and e-Learning Team takes care of all the web site services including the management and support for the University main sites and other departmental web sites, myLingnan Portal, the applications in LU Mobile apps, alumni and donor management applications on the Banner ERP system, and some student-related in-house developed systems including PASSWORD, Special Education Needs and Student Early Alert, etc. ; The Team also provides technical support for all e-Learning management systems and the associated applications such as Moodle and its external plugins, Panapto, Turnitin, iThenticate, etc., and other packaged software such as the Photo Gallery.
The Emerging Technologies Team aims at exploring and evaluating emerging IT technologies and recommending new initiatives and tools for the University. It also works with other teams to introduce new applications development tools and platforms to ITSC. The team is also responsible for the development and enhancement of the University-wide application and admission systems for the UG, TPg, RPg and Sub-degrees and other specific applications such as the Inbound and Outbound Exchange; Scholarships and Financial Aid applications for Exchange Programmes; Smart Card Support System and third-party system integrations including Lingnan Scholars (PURE), Alma, UniHub, Room Booking Systems and Space and Facility Management Systems.
Infrastructure Services Section (ISS)
The Virtualisation Services Team is responsible for the planning, evaluation, implementation and management of the server virtualization and desktop virtualization infrastructure, hyper-converge infrastructure (HCI), VMware vSphere infrastructure, SAN storage and SAN switches, server patching and upgrade, life cycle management of virtual machines and high performance computing platform. The team is also in charge of the backup and recovery systems, including setting up and maintenance of off-campus data backup repository.
Communication Network Services
The Communication Network Services Team is responsible for the planning, implementation and management of the network infrastructure, Wi-Fi system, ip-phone system, Internet services, IT cabling System, smart card controllers and readers, Data centres and LAN Room facilities management, network load balancing systems as well as network monitoring system. The Team is also responsible for the network infrastructure of hostels and off-campus learning centres.
The Network Security Team works in close collaboration with the Information Security Manager to plan, implement and manage the University’s network security infrastructure covering the firewall, network cybersecurity detection and analysis, endpoint security systems data loss prevention, security incidents management and response, and Security Orchestration, Automation and Response System (SOAR), and Privileged Access Management System (PAM). The team also supports the Information Security Manager in security incidents investigation and response.
The Cloud Infrastructure Team is responsible for the planning, implementation and management of the Microsoft directory services, email and Office 365 cloud services and other cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure. The Team is also responsible for the life cycle management of campus-wide user accounts and file sharing service, as well as the Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) to support the Single Sign-On (SSO) feature for different University’s applications.
The AV Services Team is responsible for the planning, implementation, management and operation of teaching facilities and Audio and Video (AV) system for teaching venues and offsite campus, AV systems for non-teaching venues and AV cabling system. The Team also supports webcasting and video conferencing services, public addressing systems and LED display walls. The Team also provides event support services, second tier AV support services and portable AV system support for the University.
