BA (Hons) History, 2018 Graduate

Studying History in university is not like secondary school. Our focus is not to memorise names, dates and events from the past. What we are learning is how to understand ourselves as human beings, how we became who we are now and what choices we can make. In some classes, we may have debates or re-enact situations from the past, like a drama, so we can feel ourselves how people were thinking in other times and places. We also talk about past issues that are still unresolved today, like the roles of men and women in society and different cultural and historical interpretations of gender. So studying History is really something active—we think and discuss and discover how we can live our lives as part of the human story.
